Sharpening an Image Using the Frequency Filter
The High Pass or Band Pass option of the Smooth Sharpen | Frequency Filter can be used to sharpen an image by increasing the frequency amplitude of fine high frequency detail. A luminance mask is used to apply sharpening to the mid-tones and highlights and leave the dark background unchanged. Soft light or other blend mode and opacity could be used as an option to add contrast to the sharpened image and blend it with the initial image.
The high pass frequency option is used with a luminance mask to sharpen the mid-tones and highlights. Cutoff and decay are adjusted to select high frequencies. The Add Scaled Mask to Amplitude option on the Frequency Filter is used to increase the amplitude of the high frequencies. The slider with 1X, ..., 100X option is used to scale the high frequency sharpening.
